Case Study - Thyroidectomy Video
This video shows an operation to remove a thyroid gland from an elderly cat. This is one of our most frequent procedures as hyperthyroidism is very common and can be easily sorted by surgery. This particular cat has a benign tumour which has been making her very hyper, eat a lot and lose weight.
Surgery calls for a steady hand but the operation is routine and can usually be completed within about 20 minutes as you will see here. Don't worry – there is almost no blood involved!
Surgery gets rid of the tumour altogether so is the best option for most patients. The risks are small in experienced hands and where the operating theatre has full monitoring, as it has at this practice.
