Case Study - Cat Spay Video
We have produced this real-time video of one of our most common operations. The whole operation is shown without any editing but don't worry, there isn't any blood to see!
The cat spay involves taking away everything from the ovaries to the uterus. That means just three ligatures (knots) are needed: one for each ovary and one for the uterus. There are also sutures in the midline and the skin. That's it!
Because we go in from underneath (known as a 'midline cat spay') the area shaved is tiny and not noticed. We go between the muscles not through them, making it less painful, and then aim for the uterine horns, seen in the video as two large white tubes.
Once everything is out it is then a simple matter of closing up the incision in stages.
Please note: the more common method of spaying cats involves shaving the side of the cat and tearing a hole through the muscle. This is now considered a poorer technique as it more painful for the cat afterwards. Nonetheless it is quicker so it remains popular. At this practice we won't do it!
